Mrs. Bettie Jean Cooper-Whitworth

Mrs. Bettie Jean Cooper-Whitworth, 64 of McComb, MS and a native of Greenville, MS, peacefully passed away from this earthly life of labor to a rewarded eternal life in heaven on April 25, 2021 at her residence in McComb. Mrs. Whitworth was born August 9, 1956 in Greenville, MS to Mr. M.C. Cooper and Mrs. Alice M. Wright-Cooper. Bettie confessed a belief in Jesus Christ and was baptized by Rev. Willie Newton, Pastor of Bell Grove Church. She was the seventh of ten children. Bettie attended Greenville Public Schools and graduated from Greenville High School. After graduation, she attended and graduated from Alcorn State University in Lorman, Mississippi, with a BS Degree in Special Education. She received a Master's Degree in Education ( with Distinction) from Gannon University in Erie Pennsylvania. She worked for Pennsylvania Public School System for thirty-three (33) years with special need students - nurturing and teaching them life and occupational skills. Bettie was a Soror of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. She was married in 1978 to Burell Whitworth Jr. This union produced three children - Brian, Breah, and Britnie. Bettie is preceded in death by her parents, MC and Alice Mae Cooper; two sisters - Beverly S. Cooper Stringfellow and Alpine Cooper; one brother - M C Cooper, Jr. Her mother-in-law and father-in-law Annette and Burell Whitworth, Sr. and brother-in-law Randolph Martin. She is survived by her husband of forty-three years, Burell Whitworth, Jr. one son- Brian Whitworth of Denver, CO; two daughters- Breah Whitworth of Mt. Joy, PA; Britnie Whitworth of Lancaster, PA. Two grandchildren- Doc MC Ali Whitworth and Royce A. Cartier. Four sisters- Lynell Cooper and Lottie C. (Johnnie) Wright of Greenville, MS. Odelia Cooper of Elizabeth, MS and Patricia R. Blandford of Memphis, TN. Two brothers - Jerry Cooper of Elizabethtown, Kentucky and Terry Cooper of Greenville, MS. Three sister-in-laws - Seana Rhea of St. Rose, LA, Claraetta (Roy) Jenkins of Ruth, MS, Cynthia (Kenny) O'Banner of Plano, Texas and three brother-in-laws - Willie Ray Martin of Inglewood,CA; Charles Martin and Robert Harness of Jayess, MS. She also leaves to cherish her memories a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends A visitation for Mrs. Whitworth will be held Friday, April 30, 2021 at Craft Funeral Home in McComb, MS from 5pm until 7pm. Her graveside funeral service will be held 2pm Saturday, May 1, 2021 at Lakewood Cemetery in Greenville, MS. Pastor Cameron Jenkins will officiate the service. Interment will follow in the cemetery.
