Mrs. Brenda McGowan Jefferson

Brenda Kay McGowan Jefferson, 75 years of age, transitioned to be with her Savior on Friday, February 9, 2024. Brenda was born on July 11, 1948, in Tylertown, MS, to the late Jesse and Vivian Magee McGowan. She was one of three children born to her parents. She was educated in the Walthall County School system in MS where she met her high school sweetheart, Mathew Jefferson. She later moved to New Orleans and attended Delgado Community College. In 1975, she began working at United Parcel Service where she began as a a delivery driver and worked her way up to Regional District Manager before retiring in 1992. She married Mathew Jefferson on October 17, 1976, and they share five children together, Isaac Holmes, Jr. of Nashville, TN, Shefroney T. Mondy of Dallas, GA, Kimberly Gholar (Robert Gholar) of Oakvale, MS, Keith Maye (Arlene Maye) of Byram, MS and LaKeisha N. Jefferson of New Orleans, LA. She is the grandmother of Robert Gholar, Jr., Maryetta Randolph (Kenric Randolph), Dorian J. Wisdom, Elijah K. Maye (Myiesha Maye), Isaiah B. Holmes and Ah’tyana Kennedy and is the great-grandmother of Khaiden Gholar. She is the sister of Gylendia R. McGowan and Lachele McGowan Lee. Brenda gave her life to Christ at an early age and loved volunteering her time in church. She was an ordained minister at the Upperroom Bible Church and dedicated her life to spreading the gospel. She was a faithful member of Abundant Life Church pastored by Leroy and Lisa Theard. Brenda was a fun-loving and caring person who loved to read her Bible, loved to pray with and for others and always encouraged others with a positive word. She was a light wherever she went and always put others first. She loved spending time with her family and was a devoted wife, loving mother and friend – to know her was to love her. Brenda leaves to cherish her memory her husband, her children, her grandchildren, her great-grandchild, her sisters and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her grandparents, and her granddaughter, Asia Maye. A visitation for Mrs. Jefferson will be Saturday, February 24, 2024, at Brandon Bay UM Church in Tylertown, MS, from 10am until 11am with the Funeral Service following at 11am. Pastor Leroy Thread will officiate the funeral service with interment to follow in the Brandon Bay Cemetery.
